GGJ - Enter the Volcano

Global Game Jam Melbourne was awesome to say the least - an intense experience with lots of really bad coffee and very little sleep. I met some incredible people and got to see lots of unique games in development. This was my first experience with the Global Game Jam and game jams in general. It opened my eyes to just how much can be achieved in such short a time and by only a handful of people.

I worked in a team of four to create a game based on this year's theme - "ritual". We decided on a simple game with only one core mechanic - push. Players must balance on an unstable platform whilst attempting to push their opponent(s) into the molten lava below. Our game, which we named Enter the Volcano - basically Aztec sumo wrestling, featured both single-player and multiplayer modes. Single-player pits the player against an unending horde of "sumo" A.I.s, whilst in multiplayer opponents face-off in a death match.

Thanks to Kayne Palmer, Hugh Stuart, and John Nelmes for making our game a fully (kinda) functional success. I'm looking forward to next years Jam and the uncomfortable experience of sleeping under my desk.

Greetings

I'm Daniel, and this is my blog about gaming and game development. Here I'll be covering my latest exploits and writing the occasional critique on whatever game I happen to be playing.
