Game Jam - Lord of the Cooking Zone
For the week commencing Monday 20th June, small AIE teams were provided with a random title that would serve as the inspiration for a 2 day game jam. Whilst other teams were lucky enough to get titles like "Chinese Viking from Mars" or "Demonic Bubblegum in Middle Earth", we somehow managed to score the gem "Lord of the Cooking Zone". Could have been worse I guess.
After multiple pitches fell flat, finally someone suggested a fast paced competitive multiplayer death match - because you know, why not? Players put their culinary skills to the test, using an array of cooking utensils, delicious goods, and anything else you might pick up in a kitchen, to pulverize their opponents. The game seats 2-4 players with quick, action packed rounds. Last chef standing wins!
Unfortunately the game was not as well polished as I would have liked given the conventional length of a game jam, but we managed to complete enough of the core mechanics and assets to make the game fun. As one of the two designers on the team, I was largely responsible for the arena layout and the overall pace of the game, as well as keeping the team on track.
